December is less then a day away and the excitement is building for the Jolly Old Elf , Santa Claus!! Here in Bay Roberts we have planned a new tradition, a night time Santa Claus parade! This parade will take the place of the Parade of Lights that use to start our festival every year. Our Special Event Committee wanted to kick it up a notch and present the parade on a Sunday evening. There is just something special about the twinkling of lights and the smiling faces of children at Christmas time.
Ian Flynn and I had the opportunity to meet with members of the Bay Roberts Lion’s Club to discuss the idea of possibly merging our two community parades. It was a positive meeting and we all left the meeting with a understanding we would work on the concept of one night time parade to represent our community. We also agreed there is a need for input from the public and participants as there are pros and cons to this possibility. I welcome comments on this merge, both for , or against.
The night time parade will start at the town council office at 5pm and ending at the Royal Canadian Legion on Water Street just in time for the Children’s Wish Tree Lighting at the RCMP Station, CB Highway (6pm)
Here are a few pictures of some of the floats that will be at the parade. I am very happy to announce that Catherine’s Dance Studio will have a team of dancers in the parade! It is also great that our local Bay Roberts Fire Department and Avalon North Search and Rescue Group will be there too!! I hope to see you there, or better yet, get involved!!
I hope to see you there!!
