Gas in NL….By’s Is Da Arse Goin Out of er?

I have been sitting back over the last few years, watching the price of gas go UP, then go down a little, then go UP, then down a little. I have always been amazed by how many are pay attention to the ebb and flow of the gas prices, almost as if waiting to celebrate when it takes a .5 cent drop “giving us a break at the gas pumps” but then for the next 2 or 3 Thursdays we listen to the radio the announcement for the coming week and she goes up, then we grumble. I feel like they are playing games with us, a little drop, then another, then with one fowl SWOOP, BAM!! Up she comes!!! We all know this gas hiking is having a negative effect on our economy, it seems ironic that the most action happens during tourist season, the time when one of the largest industries in Newfoundland and Labrador, a BILLION dollar industry, should be bustling, and for the most part it is. We have a 10-12 week window when we have many people who want to experience our wonderful province, but with the price of gas at record high , I wonder if we are losing some to the sunny shores of PEI or just staying home.

I know there will come a time when we will not be dependent on oil and gas, and we need to get ready for that, I guess. We will soon see smaller cars, electric contraptions and maybe the use of a bicycle in some parts of the country (which apparently gives a community a better grade on the overall scheme of things). Until then, we need to be savvy gas shoppers, to help in this pursuit ,there are some sites out there that tell you the best place to buy gas, follow this link http://www.newfoundlandgasprices.com/ and use it before planning your trip to the metro area of NL. Gas in Bay Roberts is 1.40 per litre; the best deal in town is about three cents off.
My last comment of this RANT is to not stop ranting, for the most part, this do worry some of us, I often think when will this plateau ,peter off so to speak, maybe never as long as we do not really own the resource.
