Our link to the sea is strong, lets celebrate it!!
After going through a process of identifying what we are trying to achieve in hosting a seafood festival and what we are as a community, including promoting our cultural assets, we were blessed to come up with some amazing concepts. These concepts enabled us to launch a poll to gage interest and to seek ideas for a name for the festival. There were some inventive, clever, funny and relevant suggestions. At the end of the day and through much thought, we picked a themed festival that will profile the culture of the area through music and song, tell our story on the stage through its use in the fishery or performance (culinary or theatrical ) and the link of seafood. The festival will profile those who harvest from the sea and those who prepared and present it to the world on behalf of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The “Songs, Stages and Seafood Festival” will be a fusion of culinary styles from some of the provinces best chefs, profiling the treasures of the sea while integrating our culture into a memorable weekend in Bay Roberts Newfoundland and Labrador, May 31- June2 2013.
We will be launching a new website to ensure everyone has a bigger picture of this year’s event. It will profile the many provincially renowned guest chefs who will be visiting our community as well as some of the performers who will take the “stage” during some of the evenings.
Parson’s Stage will be part of Music and Mussels Sunday June 2nd during The Songs, Stages and Seafood Festival
I am personally very proud of our chefs and musician, and I am particularly very passionate of our culture and who we as Newfoundlander and Labradoreans, we now have another weekend to profile them, their food and their song.
I wish I could tell you about some of the amazing chefs who have agreed to be part of this new project during this pilot project year. But good things come to those who wait, and I want to ensure the entire team is in place.
I look forward to everyone supporting this event and helping it grow into a national class attraction to our province during the spring season.
Bay Roberts and area abounds with fresh, local, sustainable seafood. We land, freeze, secondary process and ship many species of seafood and it is our turn to waive our flag. We want to invite everyone to our region to showcase the various seafood product of our province, May 31-June 2nd . We have been working hard to make this weekend celebration of food a memorable one. Soon invitations will be sent to chefs, producers and restaurants to get involved in this amazing event. We now ask you to help name the event, below are some names, please vote for the one which best represents us, or please offer a suggestion for us to consider. I do request for you to send this to anyone you may know who would have a keen interest to become involved in this festival that will celebrate the sea, stories and songs of Newfoundland and Labrador.

A weekend to Explore!!
I am hitting the road once again to wave the flag on the wonderful things Bay Roberts has to offer the tourist this summer season! Our team, Lois Dawe and I, will be at the Glacier Mt. Pearl Friday to Sunday profiling our new guided tours and existing cultural attractions during the Downhome Expo.
The Downhome Expo is the ultimate consumer showcase in Newfoundland. What I like about it is that there is something for everyone, and I mean everyone. I urge you to visit their website and plan to make a visit, you won’t be disappointed. Visit http://www.DownhomeExpo.com to explore the Expo.
If you do visit, drop by our booth to say hello and talk to us about the many events that will be going on this summer. We have cultural, musical and culinary tours and well as hauntings in Coley’s Point next to three grave yards. Our Nation Historic Site, The Cable Building is a site to discover the building includes the Road to Yesterday Museum and Christopher Pratt Art Gallery. Our walking trail system is one of the best in the province and is the setting for our “Toutons and Tunes walking tour” and “Cellars and Songs musical walking tour”. While planning a day trip or a weekend excursion let our tourism department tailor your experience to ensure you get the most out of your visit.
Kelly will be back with a new evening of “Tales and Tunes”
Kelly Russell will also be back in Bay Roberts this summer with his evening of “Tunes and Tales” at the Royal Canadian Legion. Kelly is a cultural and musical Newfoundland and Labrador treasure. Take the time to come and visit and be charmed by the Tales of pigeon Inlet as well as some wonderful music. Conception Bay North
Conception Bay North and surrounding area is steeped in History, from the private communication lines of President Roosevelt and Winston Churchill during WWII, to the birth place of English Settlement, to the departure of Amelia Earhart and the amazing exploits of Captain Bob Bartlett are all to explore within a 20 minute driving radius and only 50 minutes from St. John’s. Last March(2012) I visited my first Wing n it while visiting Gander, as a result, I wrote a positive food blog about my experience. While writing my post I couldn’t help but feel envious of the people of Gander for having this type of restaurant. Little did I know that only a year later, Bay Roberts would have their very own Wing n It!
For those of you who are not familiar with Wing n It, it is a restaurant primarily dedicated to wings, 93 flavors to be exact!! If you are a wing nut this is a great place to visit .The restaurant has now been open a few weeks and has held its own in the competitive market here in Bay Roberts. We have various eating establishments that are all worth the visit, but the addition of another sit down restaurant that serves great pub food fills a void that was only taken care of by Jungle Jim’s and Scrunchions (in season) in my opinion. Having a selection of restaurants, especially those that can make your meal into an evening out is great for a region who does like to eat out often.
Wing in It Bay Roberts has a relaxing atmosphere and has a vibe that I like. I did appreciate that the owner renovated the building and gave it the “Wing n it” brand. It was very nice to see that they placed the town’s coat of arms on the wall with our new slogan.
The addition of the bar area and the TV monitors placed strategically around the bar shows great attention to detail and would indeed lure the patron to linger.
Nice utilization of space, ya can’t go wrong with a bar!!!
The addition of new restaurants to our town services the residents of Bay Roberts and entices others to come and experience the variety of places to eat (true, mostly fast food, but we are evolving!)
For those looking for a complete listing of restaurants in Bay Roberts you can visit our new town of Bay Roberts website which will be launched this week during the regular council meeting starting 7pm. http://www.bayroberts.com
